Community Connections Coordinator (HSCA)

Hours: 35 hours/week, flexible hours which will include weekdays and evenings
Position Description:
Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association is a vibrant, inclusive community centre offering community-based programming, childcare, sports, and recreation facilities, and private hall rentals for business functions and special events.
Community Connections is made up of a number of programs founded in an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to increase positive social ties, develop networks of support, and create engagement opportunities for community members who are at risk of social isolation. These include Neighbour Night (participant-driven peer support program), neighbour to neighbor peer supports (primarily focused on providing supports to seniors), Sip n’ Chat (weekly low-barrier/commitment opportunity to socialize), and volunteer opportunities. Community Connections is delivered primarily by the Community Connections Coordinator and the Seniors Connections Coordinator.
The Community Connections Coordinator is fully responsible for facilitating programs including Neighbour Night and Sip n’ Chat, and supporting other community-based programs. The Community Connections Coordinator works collaboratively with program participants and volunteers to shape the delivery of programs with a focus on offering programs that are inclusive, welcoming, safe, and relevant for the people involved.
Responsibilities:
• Program Delivery
o Facilitate participant-driven peer support programs based on ABCD principles
o Build safe and inclusive spaces for participants
o Cultivate communication, leadership, and engagement among program participants and volunteers
o Support and strengthen other Community Connections programs as necessary, including the successful delivery of the Tax Clinic and Holiday Matching Program
o Participate in the review of existing programs, and development of new programs as
required
o Coordinate the preparation of meals for community programs, with volunteer support
• Volunteer and Practicum Coordination
o Recruit, coordinate and supervise a team of volunteers and interns
o Maintain a thorough and organized volunteer database
o Onboard and train volunteers, interns and practicum students
o Support volunteer coordination across the HSCA
•Program Evaluation
o Maintain thorough and organized records of program data
o Adhere to reporting timelines and expectations of funders and other internal and
external stakeholders
• Communications
o Create program promotion materials consistent with HSCA’s brand
o Communicate effectively, clearly and consistently with participants, community members, partners, volunteers and colleagues
o Adhere to timelines and expectations for internal and external communications
• Relationships and Engagement
o Supervise Social Work Students through post-secondary practicum programs
o Establish and maintain strong working relationships with participants, community members, partners, volunteers, and colleagues
o Work openly and collaboratively with diverse participants, volunteers, partners, and colleagues.
o Work in partnership with Community Programs team members to support community
members in building connections
• Other duties as assigned, including cross-training to support other program coordinators
About You:

You are a do-er; from planning to delivery and evaluation you enjoy every step of the program delivery process and have the ability to create or maintain systems to stay organized and never miss a beat. You thrive in an organization committed to leadership over management and enjoy a high level of autonomy in your work. Finally, you are willing, if not eager, to participate in shared learning and development with your team related to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Truth and Reconciliation, and Anti-Racism.
• Degree, diploma, or certificate in a related field of study or commensurate experience
• 1-3 years of experience with program development, group facilitation, and community
development; experience with Asset Based Community Development as an asset
• Experience working with volunteers
• Demonstrated ability to create welcoming and inclusive spaces as a foundation for relationship building
• Excellent group facilitation, interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable people and people of diverse backgrounds and abilities in a community-based setting.

Work Environment and Hours:
• Predominantly at Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association (1320 5 Ave NW, Calgary, AB)
• Some flexibility to work remotely, as duties permit
•35 hours of work per week, including regular evenings
• Continuous extended periods of sitting, with some standing and walking (including up/down stairwells)
• Occasional physical activity requiring the ability to bend/crouch, reach above shoulder height, kneel/crawl, and carry objects (up to 20 lbs) throughout the shift
